Nuski Mohamed current Treasurer of Sri Lanka Cricket was recently elected as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation for a two year term. He succeeds Daham Wimalasena who occupied this position for a period of over ten years. The Sri Lanka  Cricket Foundation, the brainchild  of the late Gamini Dissanayake was set up in 1982 primarily to augment the finances and assist the unaffordable  segments of the then Board of Control for Cricket of Sri Lanka following Sri Lanka’s elevation to full membership  of ICC. Nuski, as Secretary of the Board at the time, was a part of Gamini’s team during his tenure as President of BCCSL. He was also the Secretary of the Asian Cricket Council under the Presidency of late Gamini Dissanayake and was instrumental in organising the first Asia Cup Tournament in 1984. Through part funding from the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation, Gamini was able to embark on the construction of the SLC Headquarters at SSC a prime need at the time, and thereafter initiated the construction of the indoor net facility at NCC as a part of the infrastructure requirement of the BCCSL. The indoor net which was recently refurbished to meet modern standards at a cost of over Rs. 15 million has served a number of visiting international teams and the Sri Lanka national teams at all levels of cricket over the past several years. A second bowling machine has now been added to the practice facility in order to meet the demands. It is proposed to introduce modern technology to upgrade the indoor net which is currently being managed by former Sri Lanka Cricketer Uvaisul Karnain. The Cricket Foundation has helped a number of deserving poor cricketers and schools to uplift their standards in cricket and has also funded the visits of several promising cricketers for overseas training to the UK, India, Australia etc. over the years. During the past three years, the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation participated in the Zonal tournaments conducted by the Cricket Federation of India with players selected at under-15, under-17 and under-19 levels mainly from the lesser known schools outside Colombo and the outstations. This was an enormous experience to these young cricketers who have not undertaken foreign tours and they performed creditably winning at under-15 and under-17 levels. Kusal Mendis, a current schoolboy cricketer captained the Under 17 SLCF team which emerged as the winners in 2010 at the tournament held in Chennai. The Board of Trustees of Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation comprises Chairman Nuski Mohamed, Daham Wimalasena, Minister  of  Public Enterprises and Reforms Navin Dissanayake and former Sri Lanka Captains Anura Tennekoon and Duleep Mendis. S. Sivaroopan serves the SLCF as Manager cum Accountant.
