Arrangements have been finalised to hold the second OSEU Cricket Carnival on 23 August (Saturday) at P. Sara Stadium (Oval) amidst distinguished old boys of the eight Col. Henry Steele Olcott schools which are competing for the Col. Henry Steele Olcott challenge trophy.
The eight Olcott fraternity schools are Ananda, Nalanda, Dharmapala, Dharmaraja, Maliyadeva, Dharmasoka, Mahinda and Rahula. The inaugural competition held last year at the same venue was a great success and was won by Dharmasoka college with Ananda college becoming the runners up. This is a softball tournament which is aimed at getting the participation of a broader section of old boys.
Last year’s carnival was graced by Bandula Warnapuara, the first Sri Lankan Test captain as the chief guest for the opening ceremony and Rear Admiral Ananda Pieris, Director General, Dept. of Civil Security of Sri Lanka, as the chief guest for the Awards ceremony. Both of them are proud products of Olcott schools and this year’s chief guests are from Olcott schools too.
The carnival is not confined only to cricket. It’s a fun day out for families of old boys, with many children’s activities and games being planned to get them occupied and entertained through out the day.
An exhibition match between the ladies of Dharmasoka College and Dharmapala College will add more glamour to the event.
Last year, there was a big turnout from all the schools and this year’s carnival is expected to attract even a bigger crowd. There were generous individual awards for best performers in addition to each school receiving a donation in the form of a voucher towards buying cricket equipment for their respective schools. This year’s awards will surpass what was offered last year which will encourage every school to go all out to win the challenge trophy. The OSEU appeals to the old boys and girls of these Olcott fraternity schools to participate in numbers to make it a memorable event for all. After all, their participation will benefit their alma mater in their quest to reach even greater heights.
The opening ceremony is at 8:30 a.m. The matches will commence at 9 a.m.
