Old Trinitians retain G.C. Wickramasinghe golf title

The Old Boys of Trinity College defended the second edition of the G.C. Wickramasinghe Challenge Golf Trophy 2017 which teed off at the picturesque Victoria Golf Club & Resort on 19 May. 

Trinity walked away as overall winners for 2017, securing both the best gross scores and nett scores. The trophy, which is also referred to in golf circles as the Bradby Golf, has now become part and parcel of the traditional Bradby rivalry between Royal College and Trinity College and coincides with the Kandy leg of the annual Bradby Shield encounter. 

Trinity was led by last year’s overall winner Sathies Balasubramanium and walked away with the best top three cards for best gross of 63 points and best top 5 cards for best net of 181 points, which was also a clean sweep for the Old Boys of Trinity. 

Royal was led by former Sri Lanka Davis cup tennis legend Arjun Fernando. They could only manage the best top three scores for a best gross of 56 and best top five cards for net stableford points of 152 points. Andy Anderson top-scored for Royal with 34 points (nett) and 20 points (gross) respectively. 

The overall nett winner with 42 points was S. Myleventhan of Trinity while Chandima De Singha (Trinity) walked away with the trophy for best gross score (21 points) and Sidantha Karaliyadde (Trinity) was adjudicated the runner-up with 39 points (nett) and 20 points (gross) respectively. 

The winner of the longest drive was Chandima Desingha (Trinity) whilst Dr Senarath Yapa (Royal) walked away with the prize for nearest to the pin.

The main sponsor for the event was Dynasty Residencies (Kandy) while Sinhaputra Finance served as cosponsor. The next edition of this event is scheduled to be played in Colombo in 2018 and expected to field an even a bigger number of Old Boys.
