The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Old Trinitans Rugby Scrummage will be held today at the Orient Club Colombo 7, from 5.30 p.m. onwards.
Trinity College Kandy, founded in 1872 by the Principal Rev. Richard Collins, has an unparalleled rugby tradition in Sri Lanka. An old boy L. E. Blaze is credited as having introduced the game to the island’s schools in 1906, the year in which Trinity played Kingswood College Kandy in the first School boy Rugby encounter in the Country. Trinity College, endorses Rugby as its flagship sport, a sport which brings together the brand of what is “Trinity” in the hearts of the young and the old, local and overseas. Over the years, Trinity has produced many National Rugby players, Captains, Referees and Administrators, who have contributed immensely to the betterment of Rugby Football in the Country.
Old Trinitian’s Rugby Scrummage (OTRS) is an organization affiliated to the Old Boys Association (OBA) parent body of Trinity College Kandy and manages Rugby across all age groups at the School under the guidance of the Principal.
Membership of “Scrummage”, which OTRS is affectionately known amongst Trinity circles, consists of a very strong base of old Trinitians scattered across the globe. OTRS has in place a structure to implement its strategy of “consistently being a leading rugby playing School in the Country”. OTRS remains responsible in the areas of management, administration and coaching of Rugby at Trinity. Trinity 1st XV has been consistently featuring within the top three the “A” Division over the past few years while winning the coveted Bradby Shield four years in a row from 2011. Rugby loving Old Trinitans are expected to be at attendance at the OTRS AGM next Monday.
Former Trinity rugby “Lion”, CH & FC and Sri Lankan centre, Head of national Rugby Selector Rohan Abeykoon is tipped to take over the Chairman post from Jayantisa Kehelpannala who completes his two year term.
