Olympic commemorative stamps and first day cover launched at Westminster House

The commemorative stamps and first day cover for the London 2012 Olympic Games were launched at a reception hosted by the British High Commissioner John Rankin on 23 July at Westminster House. Among the guests present were the Minster for Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage; Minister for Postal Services Jeevan Kumaratunga; National Olympic Committee President Hemasiri Fernando; MEP Nirj Deva; Director-General of Sports Ranjani Jayakody; Philatelic Bureau Director T. Shreeharan; Postmaster General D.L.P.R. Abeyaratne; Tourism Development Authority Director-General Vipula Wanigasekara; members of the National Olympic Committee (NOC); staff of the Ministry of Postal Services, Department of Posts and Philatelic Bureau; members of the media and others.

The four stamps and commemorative cover were launched by the Department of Posts with the support of the NOC. The stamps depict the four sports From left: National Olympic Committee President Hemasiri Fernando; Minister for Postal Services Jeevan Kumaratunga; Minister for Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage; and British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka John Rankin hold up the first day cover and commemorative stampsbeing represented by Sri Lanka at the London 2012 Games: swimming, badminton, shooting and athletics.
