Shaheryar Khan, who has recently taken over as Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board, visited Sri Lanka on the last leg of his tour of South Asian Cricketing nations. The purpose of the trip was to improve coordination and forge friendly ties between the Cricket Boards of the four South Asian cricketing nations. In Colombo, Shaheryar Khan met Sri Lanka Cricket Board President Jayantha Dharmadasa and discussed matters related to regional and bilateral cricket. Shaheryar Khan also briefed the Sri Lankan side about the improved security situation in Pakistan as a result of ongoing military operation against terrorist organisations. He informed the Sri Lankan Cricket Board that Pakistan is following a gradual and step-by-step approach to open up and revive international cricket in Pakistan. In this regard, the PCB Chairman invited Sri Lanka’s Women’s Cricket Team, A-Team and Under 19 teams to visit Pakistan. He assured that foolproof security arrangements would be made for the visiting teams. Dharmadasa assured fullest support to Pakistan Cricket. It is pertinent to recall that Pakistan supported the revival of international cricket on Sri Lankan home grounds by sending Pakistan’s National Cricket team here during Sri Lanka’s prolonged war against terrorism. The PCB Chairman also called on the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Maj. Gen. Qasim Qureshi. He briefed the High Commissioner regarding PCB’s efforts to improve coordination and to forge friendly ties between the Cricket Boards of Pakistan, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. He also updated the High Commissioner about his interactions with the Sri Lankan Cricket Board.
