Pakistan beats India to clinch Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

Pakistan competed against India in a closely fought final to win the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy.

Pakistan lifted the Asian hockey champions trophy beating India five-four in the final match at Doha on Thursday night. Waqas Sharif and Muhammad Imran scored two goals each to help Pakistan win the nail bite contest. Shafqat Rasool scored one goal.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf have congratulated Pakistani hockey team on winning the trophy.

In his message of greetings to Captain Muhammad Imran, the Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf praised the excellent performance of Pakistan Hockey Team which brought them top on the victory stand. He hoped that the team would continue its efforts for bringing more laurels to the country. The Prime Minister wished all success in their future endeavors.

The Asian Hockey Champions Trophy is an event held annually by the Asian Hockey Federation since 2011. It features the Asian Games top six field hockey teams competing in a round robin format. Pakistan is the defending champion of Asian Hockey Champions Trophy.
