Pakistan Davis Cup hosted at reception by Pakistan High Commission Colombo

The High Commission of Pakistan in Sri Lanka hosted the visiting of the four-member Pakistan Davis Cup team, along with their team officials at a reception yesterday in Colombo.

The Pakistani squad includes; Aisamul Haq Qureshi, Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan and M. Abid.

The team is currently in Sri Lanka to take part in the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Zone group II, tie against Sri Lanka, which will be played from 1 to 3 February 2013, at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association clay courts.

The tie will feature four singles and one double match. The two opening singles matches are scheduled for 1 February and the doubles match will be played on 2 and 3 February.

All the matches will be played on the basis of best of five sets under the scrutiny of Indian referee Punnet Gupta, and Sri Lankan chair umpires Muffadel Hazari and Prasad Jayalatharachchi.

As the host, Sri Lanka have never beaten Pakistan in the first round of Asia/Oceania Zone group II, in the all four previous meetings.

The winners of the Colombo tie will meet the winners of New Zealand group against Lebanon group tie, to decide which country stays in contention for group I promotion, while the incompetent team of this week’s two ties, will meet in the relegation play off in April.

The reception was attended by the Acting High Commissioner of Pakistan Amna Baloch and officers from the Pakistan High Commission Colombo.

Speaking at the occasion Amna Baloch conveyed her best wishes to the visiting team for their success in their upcoming matches against Sri Lanka.
