People’s Bank Western Zone 1 clinches W. Karunajeewa Memorial Challenge Trophy

The team fielded by the People’s Bank Western Zone 1 bagged the challenge trophy in the inaugural inter-regional six-a-side hard ball cricket tournament organised by the People’s Bank Sports Club in memory of the late Chairman of the Bank W. Karunajeewa and held at the BRC Grounds recently.
The tournament which was conducted on a knockout basis attracted 11 teams representing eleven regions in which the Southern Region emerged as the Runner-up while the Western Zone 2 snatched the third place overcoming stiff competition from the rest.
For his dynamic and consistent performance, Tharindu Chandrasiri who represented the Southern Province team was awarded the ‘Man of the Series Trophy’ while Thilina Waidyanatha of the Western Zone 1 and A.V.P. Iruka of the same team were elected as the Best Batsman and Best Bowler of the tournament respectively.
This exciting tournament drew an enthusiastic response from a large number of staff members who gathered at the BRC Grounds to cheer their respective teams while N. Vasantha Kumar, CEO/GM of the Bank and several members of the corporate and executive management teams were also present at the venue to take a glimpse of the sporting talents of the People’s Bankers.
