Former All Blacks Sevens player Peter Woods is being tipped to coach the Sri Lanka Sevens rugby unit. If his negotiations are successful then his first assignment will be the Hong Kong Sevens in April this year.

Sri Lanka finished the 2016 Asian Sevens second, booking their berth for this tournament which will take place at the Hong Kong Stadium from 7-9 April. This tournament began in 1976 and in its early days Sri Lanka was invited to the competition before it was later changed to a World Series encounter.

According to reliable sources, Woods is likely to be appointed from 2017-2019 in a move which looks at the future of the shorter format of the game in which the national team has excelled.

Sri Lanka will kick off the Sevens calendar with the Borneo Sevens in Malaysia in March. The Asian Sevens will be worked off in Hong Kong, South Korea and Sri Lanka in September and October this year.
