Alain Gyi after initially playing a cat and mouse game in the front nine showed his true prowess and used his years of experience to finally emerge comfortably victorious beating Suren Waas 5/3 while Ramesh Carvalho, a relative newcomer with a 17 handicap and seeded third based on his qualifying round score in stroke play format, indicated his liking for the match-play format as well by beating the more powerfully built Kamlesh Johnpillai 4/3 to set up an interesting final with Alain.
Experience versus youth will be put to the test in this game and spectators should be in for a treat on Sunday 20 July afternoon, which incidentally is Pin Fernando’s 90th birth anniversary.
The Pam Fernando Trophy 2014 for Ladies will also test experience over youth when RCGC’s Lady Captain Jane Hong takes on a young jewel Iman Sangani in the final also to be played on Sunday. Both players had a ding-dong battle from the start but managed to beat their opponents Kishani Vethavinayakam 2/1 and Louise Parson 3/2 respectively.
United Tractor & Equipment (UTE) together with FS Curtis, a leading supplier of air compression equipment which is the sole sponsor of this prestigious annual board, will be concluding this event with a lavish celebration at Playtrix, the most modern sports café in town.
