Government yesterday updated Parliament with details of the excessive payments that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) had been forced pay to employ and take services of law firms during the recent past.
Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara responding to a question raised by JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said a total of Rs.36,313,024.22 had been paid as legal and professional fees for lawyers and legal firms during 2013, 2014 and 2015. “These moneys were paid in connection with the 363 litigations the Sri Lanka Cricket had undergone during the said three years,” Minister Jayasekara said.
According to Minister Jayasekara, Sri Lanka Cricket prefers an out of court settlements bringing a stop to rising legal fees and the costs of continuing legal battles.
