The UTE CAT Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship is well poised for a tense finish with overnight leader Prabagaran scoring a two under par third round to hold on to a slender one stroke lead from Thangaraja, going in to the final round. Thangaraja followed up his seven under par second round with a 4 under par 67, the best card for the day. ‘Raja’ shot seven birdies on the 2nd, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, 15th and 18th, coupled with three bogeys on the 9th, 10th and 17th to still for all, produce the lowest score on day three. Thangaraja cut down Praba’s overnight lead to a single stroke setting up a photo-finish to the UTE CAT Sri Lanka Open Championship. Anura Rohana kept himself in contention with another two under par 69 to be in third place on seven under par still four strokes behind the championship leader Prabagaran. Mithun Perera had an uncharacteristic 72 to be seven strokes off the lead on four under par. The forty one players who made the two-round cut-off were well spread out, separating the Professionals on tour, PGTI and Asian Tour who were under par, from the rest of the field, who were all over par. The final round of the championship promises to be enthralling, with only seven strokes separating the top four. The UTE CAT Sri Lanka Open Championship Title Sponsor UTE CAT and Co-Sponsor CML MTD Construction can be satisfied with the quality of golf produced at the Ridgeways described by many playing on the circuit to be in excellent condition especially the first nine holes after the re-planting of the nine greens.
