The week from 6 February to 12 February has been declared National Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Week with the aim of creating a healthy, happy and energetic generation of Sri Lankans.
In view of this event, numerous sports and physical fitness promotion programs are scheduled to be launched across the country. A discussion in this regard was held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday in the presence of President Maithripala Sirisena. During the meeting the President instructed officials to implement this program considering the contributions of all relevant sectors.
The President also pointed out the importance of implementing programs to promote people’s mental wellbeing and physical fitness.
Accordingly, 6 February has been declared as Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day for state and corporation officials.
7 February - Private Sector Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day
8 February - Mother and Child Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day
9 February - Women Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day
10 February - Adults and Differently-abled Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day
11 February - Youth Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day
12 February - Community Participation Day of Sports and Physical Fitness Promotion Day
Many programs are scheduled to be implemented in this regard.
Ministers and MPs, including Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara, Rajitha Senaratne, W. D. J. Senevirathne, Mahinda Samarasinghe and Chandrani Bandara and Secretaries to the Ministries, Heads of Department and public officials participated in this discussion.
