President to felicitate netball star from North

Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage said President Mahinda Rajapaksa will felicitate Sri Lanka netball star Tharjini Sivalingam on July 20 at the ceremony to launch the construction of Kilinochchi Sports Complex.

Tharjini Sivalingam, Asia’s tallest netball player at 6’ 10” performed excellently for her team in the Netball World Championship that was held in Singapore from July 3-10 despite Sri Lanka finishing at the 14th place out of 16 teams.

The government is to offer Tharjini Rs. 500,000 cash price, the Sports Minister has said.

Tharjini, a daughter of a Tamil farmer of Jaffna, received her education at the Vayavilan Central College and graduated from Eastern University in Batticaloa.
