The prestigious Captain’s Cup and President’s Prize golf tournament took place at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club course during the recent holiday weekend on 13 and 14 April.
It was sponsored by Baur Consumer, the sole importer for the ‘only’ Swiss muesli in Sri Lanka. The Ladies’ Open Tournament which was played on Saturday 13 April for the first time, as a part of the main tournament and was sponsored by Baur Optics and the Italian-designed Polar Sunglasses. This is the second time Baurs sponsored the event with A. Baur & Co. Ltd., as a corporate entity sponsoring the major golf event in 2010.
Whilst Nihal Perera emerged as the winner for the Captain’s Cup, the President’s Trophy was won by Sunil Jayakody.
Both the Captain’s Cup and President’s Prize have a long history in Sri Lanka. The Captain’s Cup was introduced during the jubilee celebrations of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club in 1897 (September) while the President’s Prize was first played in 1951. The two events have been played regularly over a number of years; the Captain’s Cup, for over a century.
