Prima Champions Cup begins for fifth consecutive year

The Prima Group, in partnership with Sri Lanka Cricket, has made plans to commence the Prima Champions Cup 2011, Under 15 inter-district and inter provincial cricket tournaments. The opening ceremony was held at the Kettarama Stadium, Colombo on 17 October with the participation of all senior officials from SLC and Prima Group.

Prima Sri Lanka Group General Manager Tan Beng Chuan said: “It is our great pleasure to sponsor this Under 15 Cricket Tournament for the 5th consecutive year, as we recognize the need to encourage and harness young cricketing talent. We are happy to announce that this partnership with SLC that will help young cricketers to become excellent national level players.”

According to Head of Cricket Operations Ashley De Silva, “SLC is proud to partner Prima in this tournament, and recognizes their contribution to the uplifting of Junior Cricket in Sri Lanka.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Business Manager and Senior Marketing Manager Sajith Gunaratne said: “Our commitment to develop junior cricket in Sri Lanka will go beyond this tournament. As always Prima will provide all teams with total nutrition and cricket gear while all teams will receive professional guidance from SLC coaches, thus ensuring all teams compete equally. With the help of SLC, we have conducted over 20 coaching camps during the last four years, for under 13 and under 15 cricketers and will continue in the coming years. Also we have developed coaching posters with the guidance of Sri Lanka Cricket to educate finer points on batting, bowling, fielding and wicket keeping to be distributed among the entire coaching staff of Sri Lanka Cricket.”

Prima Champions Cup Under 15 District and Provincial Cricket tournaments will undoubtedly help the young cricketers to gain their confidence and experience in the coming years. With view to showcase their cricketing talent these matches will receive TV coverage and the final match will be telecasted live on Channel Eye next month
