Prima Champions Cup to commence for 6th consecutive year

The Prima Group, in partnership with Sri Lanka Cricket, has made all plans to commence the Prima Champions Cup 2012, Under 15 Inter-district and inter provincial tournaments for the 6th consecutive year. A press conference was held at the SLC headquarters recently with the participation of all senior officials from SLC and Prima Group.

The tournament commencing on 4 December 2012 will allow the participation of 560 players from all around the country including the North and East. Twenty eight teams will compete against each other and the best players from these district teams will be selected for the provincial teams. Ten provincial teams will then compete for the Provincial Championship.

A noteworthy feature this year is the addition of two teams from Killnochchi and Mullativ, further extending participation from the North.

At a recent press conference held at the SLC headquarters, Prima Group Sri Lanka General Manager Tan Beng Chuan confirmed that the group will continue their partnership with SLC. “Having successfully conducted this tournament for six consecutive years with tremendous results we have signed with SLC to continue this sponsorship for next three years with the view to further develop junior cricket in Sri Lanka.”

Saying that all plans have been finalised for an exciting tournament, General Manager, Ceylon Agro Industries Shun Tien Shing thanked SLC for giving the Prima Group an opportunity to make a contribution to uplifting junior cricket in Sri Lanka.  

“We are happy to see in Akila Danajaya the proof of our efforts being fruitful in producing a national cricketer and we wish to thank SLC coaching staff and Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardena for identifying him.”

Senior Business and Senior Marketing Manager Ceylon Agro Industries Sajith Gunaratne said “Our commitment to develop junior cricket in Sri Lanka will go beyond this tournament. As always Prima will provide all teams with total nutrition and cricket gear while all teams will receive professional guidance from SLC coaches, thus ensuring all teams compete equally.”

Prima Champions Cup under 15 District and Provincial Cricket tournaments will undoubtedly help the young cricketers gain their confidence and experience in the coming years. With view to showcase their cricketing talent these matches will receive TV coverage and the final match will be telecasted live on CSN on 19 December2012.
