Prominent racer Darin Weerasinghe beats personal record powered by UTE

United Tractor and Equipment (UTE) has over the last few years been a proud sponsor of prominent local racer Darin Weerasinghe.He finished in a very respectful Runner-Up position amongst a highly competitive field at the SLARDAR-AMRC Tarmac Championships 2015 held at the Katukurunda race track on May 31.                                                                        

Weerasinghe placed second in his Subaru STI X in the much anticipated SLGT Super Car event. Having qualified with the fastest time, Weerasinghe commenced the race from Pole position 1, vying with 19 other top drivers for the title. 

This is just the latest in a series of excellent performances by Weerasinghe – recently, he also won the PreethiPaliyaguru trophy at the Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb, organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC). In doing so, Weerasinghe beat his own personal track record by almost a second, recording the fastest time of 33.83 seconds at the Hill Climb. 

Weerasinghe is not just a Tarmac Racing Driver but is also Unbeaten Champion in the Current Drag Racing Championship held by Ceylon Motor Sports Club. 

Driving a Nissan GTR Darin has proven to be unbeaten in the Local Drag Racing Scene even though many competitors have bought various vehicles in many forms to challenge him.

We too have consistently stepped forward to support Darin, as he is a trailblazing sportsman who has already made his mark on the racing track. This is also in keeping with the spirit of team-building and hard work that sports encourages, which is something that UTE supports wholeheartedly,” said Nalin Manorathne, GM-Marketing at UTE Sri Lanka. 

UTE has also lent its support to the sport of golf, having consistently sponsored golf tournaments such as the Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship and the Pin and Pam Fernando trophies.
