Pushpadana Girls Kandy edged out St. Anthony’s Girls School by 53/51 in the final of the Central Province Schools Under 19 Basketball Championship played at the St. Anthony’s Girl’s College courts yesterday. This tournament was organised by the Department of Education of the Central Province.
At the short breather scores were at 25 all. For Pushpadana, Dilmini Chandraratne (21) and Sachini Abeysinghe (19) were the chief scorers. For St. Anthony’s Girls, S. Ruchini (21) and Aruni Wijekoon (15) scored the highest points.
Dilmini Chandraratne of Pushpadana walked away with the Best Player of the Finals for scoring 21 points. Good Shepherd Convent put up a brave effort in the third place play off when they were edged out by Hillwood 22/18. At half time the scores were at eight-a-piece.
