Rahula’s Dimuth Mirissage bags all island under 14 chess championship

Dimuth Oshadi Mirissage of Rahula College Matara emerged the under 14 champion at the all island junior chess championships worked off at Royal College from 17 to 20 April. More than 245 students participated in the under 14 age group this year.
As the under 14 champ, Dimuth will represent Sri Lanka at the Asian chess championship to be held in New Delhi and the World junior chess championship to be held in South Africa this year.
Dimuth first represented the country at the third Asian Schools Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka in 2007 at which he won the Silver medal in the under seven age group and a gold medal for the team championship. In 2008 he emerged the under eight champion at the Sri Lanka junior chess championship and represented Sri Lanka at the Asian junior chess championship held in Teheran and the world junior chess championship held in Vietnam.
He was a member of the team that won the silver medal at the Asian junior Chess Championship held in Sri Lanka in 2009. Dimuth was a member of the Sri Lanka under 11 team that won the silver medal at the seventh Asian Schools Chess Championship held in New Delhi in 2011.
