Team Raptor 1 – Eagles, managed by Aqueela Ghaffoor and captained by Aamir Ghaffoor, reigned supreme at the Six-hour Endurance Karting Championship 2015 by winning the second leg of the series held at Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama on 8 August.
The winning combination of Raptor 1 - Eagles also included Taffy Alahakoon and Charith Gunawardena while their pit crew Navindu Dewaka and Lahiru Isuru also pitched in. The champions displayed superb coordination, precision and control to complete a record 573 laps in five hours 59:25.513 seconds.
Intek Racing, who occupied the second slot at the podium, were four laps behind Raptor 1 - Eagles. Captained by Eshan Pieris, Intek Racing competed with only one additional driver, Kyle Crosland, while the rest of the crew included manager Saman Gamage and pit crew Rohana Hapugodage and Rajitha Colombage.
Team BKMS 1 Racing, comprising Kevin Perera, Brayan Perera, Ushan Perera, Lucky Chaminda, Tharanga Perera and Saman Perera, came in third completing 569 laps, the same number of laps completed by second-placed Intek Racing, but were a few seconds behind them.
Gunners and Panol Racing finished fourth and fifth respectively while Panol Racing also recorded the fastest lap time of the day at 36.251 seconds.
Known as the biggest of its kind, the Formula-One style Six-hour Endurance Karting Championship is organised by the Asian Motor Racing Club, Single Seater Formula Motorsports Association and Sri Lanka Karting Circuit, owned and managed by David Pieris Automobiles Ltd, and attracted a full house of spectators. Janashakthi Insurance was the main sponsor of the event which was co-sponsored by Com Trust Asset Management Ltd. while CEAT, Singer and Exide were the associate sponsors.
The next round of the Six-hour Endurance Karting Championship 2015 will be held in October, followed by the fourth and final round in December at the Sri Lanka Karting Circuit in Bandaragama where top-class karting action will be on display.
