The once neglected Henry Pedris basketball courts which was known as a premier location for basketball in the country during the yester years has been reconstructed and will be available for public use from 4 November 2012.

The basketball court was reconstructed as a measure of developing the sport and uplifting and influencing the Sri Lankan youth in to basketball by Tharunyata Hetak, the Hambantota Sorts Club and the HSC Blues Basketball Club. The Henry Pedris basketball court has been transformed into a state-of-the-art facility and is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka.

The reconstruction of the Henry Pedris basketball court could be considered a great opportunity and a privilege to the sportsmen and women in the surrounding schools and the schools which do not possess a basketball court of their own.

Adding more value to this project, the Hambantota Sports Club and HSC Blues Basketball will be providing the court free of charge to schools to conduct practices, workshops and coaching camps. This decision was made to promote the sport of basketball among school children and to develop players at a junior level so that they could compete at the highest level among age groups.

HSC Blue Basketball will also conduct various types of coaching camps and a basketball academy will also be established at the venue in order to train and develop the skills of amateur players. In addition to this, the HSC Blues Basketball will also conduct coaching camps in various parts of the island through which they will be able to take the sport of basketball to every township in the country.

The coaching camps will be powered by Airtel which has been in the forefront of developing sports in the country.  The facility will be officially open to players from 4 November 2012.
