Chamal Kumarasiri from D.S. Senanayake MMV Meerigama, Ridma Nishadi from Dharmasoka Ambalangoda and Hashini Prabodha from Holy Family Convent Wennappuwa set new records on Day 4 of the All-Island School Games Athletic Championship, which took place at the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.
Kumarasiri, an Asian Youth Champion, came first in the Under-19 boys’ triple jump with Roshan Dhammika from Kularatne MV Godakawela finishing in second place. Dhammika also won the Under-19 boys’ 110 meters hurdles, clocking a timing of 14.6 seconds two days ago.
Ridma Nishadi cleared 5.85 meters to win in her category. She was placed second in the triple jump (11.67 m) behind Hashini Prabodha from HFC Wennappuwa, who cleared 12.66 meters to break the record held by Vidusha Lakshani.
The five-day meet organised by the Ministry of Education was held with the ground at the Bogambara Stadium in poor condition with several patches stripped of grass.
