Latin America’s top surfer in Sri Lanka 3 to 7 October

One of the most influential and talented Latin American surfers, Gabriel Villaran, will play the godfather of the first ‘Red Bull Local Hero Tour’ when he will search Sri Lanka for the best local surfing talent. Between 3 to the 7 October, Gabriel Villaran will visit four of Sri Lanka’s most famous and iconic surfing spots; Pottuvil, Peanut Farm, Okanda and Arugam Bay to coach 30 of Sri Lanka’s most talented young surfers. They will then take to the water to compete and qualify to be the top two

local heroes from each stop. In the final round, six successful surfers will then have an exclusive coaching workshop at Arugam Bay, before once again taking to the water to compete in a best trick contest to be crowned Sri Lanka’s Local Hero. The grand winner will accompany Gabriel Villaran on his Local Hero tour in Maldives. Starting at age seven, this young Peruvian, Gabriel Villaran from Lima, Peru honed his surf skills in the best waves the Americas have to offer and, today, the world is his stage. Showcasing big-wave prowess beyond his years, progressive aerials, photogenic style, and an ability to succeed in any contest format, this quadruple-threat is willing to attack any wave. Making it into the top flight of surfing is anything but easy, and the help of a mentor, a senior, can be extremely valuable. These 30 young Sri Lankan surfers whom Gabriel Villaran is about to take under his wing will have a once in a life time opportunity to learn from one of the modern day masters.
