Ritzbury-powered John Tarbet Junior Athletics Meet concludes with 13 new meet records

The 44th Sir John Tarbet Junior Athletic Championship, organised by the Sri Lanka Schools’ Athletics Association (SLSAA) under the sponsorship of Ritzbury, concluded at the Diyagama Stadium in Homagama. While Ave Maria Convent, Negombo emerged champions in the girls’ category, the defending champions Maris Stella College, Negombo grabbed the title in the boys’ category. The prize giving was held under the patronage of Nandana Wickramage, Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL).
The defending champions secured 74 points, with Lyceum International School, Wattala and Loyola College, Kochchikade coming in second and third place, with 71 and 57 points respectively. Meanwhile, in the girls’ category, Ave Maria Convent obtained 98 points with Maliyadewa Balika, Kurunegala and Newstead, Negombo securing the second and third place respectively.
“We are glad to be a part of yet another eventful meet in Sri Lanka’s sporting calendar. New meet records were established and many outstation athletes shone, bagging the trophies on offer. Sponsoring the 44th Sir John Tarbet Junior Athletics Championship has given us the opportunity to support many students enabling them to showcase their sporting talents. Ritzbury seeks to remain committed to supporting budding talent throughout the country and looks forward to a long and fruitful partnership with the Sri Lanka Schools, Athletic Association and other sporting bodies in the country,” said Nilupul De Silva, Marketing Manager of CBL Foods International.
After four days of intense competition, Saseema Rajapaksha of Rathnawali Balika, Gampaha and Waruna Attanayake of Lyceum International School were adjudged the best athletes of the meet.
Ritzbury has been continuously supporting Sri Lanka’s sports discipline and is the regular sponsor of the Junior National Squash Championship, Inter International Schools Soccer Tournament and the Inter International School and Mercantile Athletic Meet. Ritzbury will also sponsor the senior category of the John Tarbet event in September at the Sugathadasa Stadium.
