Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics Meet to commence tomorrow
Ritzbury, the number one selling brand of chocolates in Sri Lanka, has come on board for the second consecutive year as the main sponsor of the Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics Championship. The meet will be held from 6 to 8 September at the Sugathadasa stadium. This prestigious meet, which is on its 83rd year, is organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Athletic Association (SLSAA) together with the Ministry of Education.
Commenting on the sponsorship CBL Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales Nandana Wickramage said, “With the intention of supporting and developing the talents of thousands of athletes across the country, we are glad to once again come on board as the main sponsor of the Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics Championship. The sponsorship of the meet symbolises Ritzbury’s commitment to give children the liberty to perform to their full potential and become future sporting ambassadors for Sri Lanka.”
“I take pleasure in extending my sincere appreciation to Nandana Wickramage, Group Director and Head of Marketing and Sales of CBL and the Ritzbury team for providing over 4,000 athletes with the opportunity to exhibit their talents at the meet this year,” mentioned SLSAA Secretary Susantha Fernando.
With 23 trophies lined up, a total of 180 events are scheduled to take place. The outstanding athletes of this meet are selected for the Junior South Asian Championship to be held in India later this month. As in the previous years the electronic timing system will be used to select the winners in all the age categories; under 16, 18 and 20.
The championship this year will also feature Nirmali Madhushika, Akila Ravishanka, Dilhani Fernando and Anuradha Vidushanka who brought honour to their motherland by winning medals at the recently held Youth Asian Games in China.
