The 14th annual Royal-Thomian hockey encounter played for the Orville Abeynaike Memorial Trophy ended in a nil-all draw this year. The match was very keenly contested with play after one hour going into 10 extra minutes, which too could not have a result. The Royal right half Pasindu Charuka was judged the best player. There were notable performances from P.R. (Chula) Wanigasuriya of S. Thomas’ College and their two full backs Kumaratheesan and Illamanathan. As Royal won the encounter last year, it retained the Orville Abeynaike Trophy. The old boys match played for the Nihal Nilaweera Memorial Trophy and was won this year by Royal college scoring two goals to one. The Chief Guest on the occasion was former Royal hockey player M.I. De Silva.
