Rugby 7s included in 18th Asian Games in Indonesia 2018

Sevens Rugby Football in the Men’s and Women’s category will be worked out at the 18th Asian Games which will take place in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2018. This was confirmed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). 

Asian Games are the second largest multi-sport event in the world (after the Olympic Games) rugby will be featured in tandem in Asia with the Asian Games (2018),  Rugby World Cup (Japan 2019) and Olympics (Japan 2020).

Sri Lanka is expected to send two teams for Rugby Sevens one Men’s and Women’s for this mega Asian event.

The following are the sports included in the Asian Games 2018: Aquatics – 47, Archery – 10, Athletics – 46, Badminton – 7, Baseball/Softball – 2, Basketball – 4, Bowling – 6, Boxing – 12, Bridge – 6, Canoe/Kayak – 16, Cycling – 16, Equestrian – 6, Fencing – 10, Football – 2, Golf – 2, Gymnastics – 18, Handball – 2, Hockey – 2, Jet Ski – 3, Judo – 14, Kabaddi – 2, Karate – 13, Martial Arts – 36, Modern Pentathlon – 4, Paragliding – 6, Rowing – 15, Rugby Sevens-2, Sailing – 10, Sepak Takraw – 6, Shooting – 18, Sport Climbing – 8, Squash – 4, Table Tennis – 4, Taekwondo – 16, Tennis – 10, Triathlon – 3, Volleyball – 4, Weight lifting – 16 and Wrestling – 18.
