Isipathana found the answer to Royal’s rolling maul, halting the march of their forwards to record an impressive 28-14 win.
The win keeps them unbeaten and sets up a blockbuster final game against the Thomians next weekend. It also allows Isipathana to keep the Major Milroy Fernando Trophy.
Leading 14-7 at halftime, Isipathana used their speedy three-quarter line while the Royalist relied on their trademark rolling maul. Isipathana’s stand-in skipper Rankothge and Royal skipper Nikla Gunadheera played some cohesive rugby and led from the front. Both teams made a number of mistakes, with Royal leading the tally, a fact which ultimately cost them the game. Their reliable place kicker, Askey, was off-target with vital kicks at goal which could have given his side the lead.

Peterites edge out Wesley
St. Peter’s edged out Wesley 31-22 in a tense battle at Bambalapitiya this weekend. The Peterites, who underperformed this season, finishing sixth in the Singer League, regrouped and played some good running rugby to register a good win before their last game against Trinity next weekend.
St. Peter’s, after two tough losses to Royal and S. Thomas’, played well throughout the game. At halftime they led 7-10.
Thomians outclass Science
Despite lying just a single place above Science College on the league table, S. Thomas’ College dominated them in every department to record a 34-0 victory. There were a lot of ball handling errors due to the prevailing wet conditions.
Trinity outclass Antonians
Trinity matched expectations by outclassing St. Anthony’s College 32-23. The Antonian fullback Maduwantha was in excellent form and scored at will. He contributed 18 out of St. Anthony’s 23 points and also executed a neat drop goal from 45 meters beyond the Trinity try line.
