Samaposha, the leading nutrition brand of Plenty Foods, a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits limited took up the initiative in sponsoring the AFC U14 Girls Regional Championship South and Central Asia for the 4th consecutive year, organised by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL). The matches are scheduled to take place from 5 to 10 March 2013 at CR&FC grounds and City Football Complex. Contingents from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran and Tajikistan will take part in the tournament while 15 matches will be played during the five-day championship. At the 2012 games, the Sri Lankan team secured the third position.
Referring to this year’s tournament FFSL Youth Development Chairman Dr. Manil Fernando said: “The Asian Football Confederation U14 girls’ competition creates an opportunity for a friendly, yet competitive match among teams. These games enhance the fellowship and camaraderie between participating nations by giving an opportunity for friendly interactions, and cultural exchange.” Discussing about this sponsorship, Plenty Foods Director/Chief Executive Officer Shammi Karunaratne said: “Our main objective is to nurture the children, both physically and mentally by encouraging them to participate in sports.
“As a result of engaging in sports, children grow up to be physically healthy individuals and learn to accept both victory and defeat alike. These positive attributes are essential to lead ones life as a balanced adult in the future.” Explaining Samaposha’s commitment, Marketing General Manager Vasantha Chandrapala said: “Samaposha has contributed in numerous ways to promote and develop football in Sri Lanka.
“We are quite determined to make the sport attractive to regional and rural children and have sponsored many competitions together with the FFSL to make it appealing to them. Our hope is to see these children competing at an international level.”
