The boys from Samoa and girls from Australia secured Rugby Sevens gold at the Youth Commonwealth Games 2017 in the Bahamas last weekend.

Sri Lanka, who got the better of the hosts in round one 76-0 beat the same side in the play-offs for fifth position with another easy 43-5 win. Sri Lankan preparations for this tournament were not sufficient as the Head Coach Peter Woods was given just over five days with the boys.

Meanwhile, the girls’ event saw the powerful and ruthless Aussie outfit defeat Canada 31-5. In the bronze medal match, Wales edged out Fiji 19-14 in a tense encounter. Trinidad and Tobago beat Bermuda 29-0 to seal fifth place. (SJ)
