Trinity’s cricket head coach Sampath Perera will leave the school after a seven-year stint with the Lions to travel to Dubai where he will be involved with the cricket academy run by Aravinda De Silva and Rameez Raja.
Sampath played for BRC (1992-1994) and for Bloomfield AC (1994 to 1999) before moving to Australia to qualify as a cricket coach under Cricket Australia. During his stay in Australia he was coaching Burwood Cricket Club as well. After returning to Sri Lanka Sampath coached his alma mater from 1999 to 2007. He took over Trinity cricket in 2008 and was a huge success, changing the Trinity cricket team into a winning outfit.
His best accomplishment came in the 2011/2012 season when Trinity won 11 matches, which is a record.
Trinity assistant coach Kavinda Jayasuriya will be the acting coach of the team until end of this season. Trinity is led by Raveen Sayer with Nushan Weerasinghe functioning as his deputy.
