Bogoda Appuhamilage Sanjeewa Kumara Jayalath comprehensively won the May Edition of the Pin Fernando Grand Prix 2017, powered by CAT SOLAR and sponsored by United Tractor and Equipment Ltd. (UTE), by a comfortable nine strokes over M.U. Chanaka Perera, who snatched second place from Vinoth Kumar by one stroke.
It was refreshing to note that young Chanaka Perera, Vinoth Kumar of Nuwara Eliya, currently based in Qatar, Chalitha Pushpika and Pradeep Bandara finished in the top six. Lamindu Rainika, the only junior to qualify, occupied seventh place and also won the special junior prize at the PFGP May Edition.
The final round was very challenging with some difficult pin positions and the picturesque golf course proving more challenging than it seemed. Winner B.A. Sanjeewa was 10 over par for the four rounds with scoring at the NEGC course being difficult.
Nonetheless, the Sri Lanka Open 2017 for Professionals and Amateurs is scheduled for July, while the 130th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship has been rescheduled from 16-22 October 2017, to be conducted in Nuwara Eliya at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club.
The CAT SOLAR Pin Fernando Grand Prix June Edition sponsored by UTE will be played from 13-16 June. B.A. Sanjeewa leads the CAT SOLAR PFGP Grand Prix Rankings comfortably after the completion of five editions as at 31 May 2017.
