The Sri Lanka Schools Under 18 All-Island Sevens tournament concluded over the weekend with Science College convincingly beating Kingswood 24-7 in the finals.
The star of the tournament was Sanjula Roshan of Science College Mount Lavinia who scored 13 tries in the tournament across both days. He was a treat to watch for all those who packed into the Royal College Sports Complex.
On the first day he scored seven tries against Prince of Wales and Moratuwa Vidyalaya, helping Science College to easily qualify for the Cup quarterfinals on day two. Science met S. Thomas’ in the quarterfinals, with the clash ending in a tight game which Science won 12-10. Roshan scored both tries - one being a spectacular 60-meter dash to the try line. In the semi-final, Science met the strong Isipathana outfit. As expected it was a close encounter with Science winning 12-7, as Roshan scored one of the game’s two tries.
In the finals against Kingswood, Science, playing a superior brand of Sevens rugby, outplayed their opponents, winning the game 24-7. Roshan once again scored three of the four tries for the winners, capping a great tournament.
Roshan is just 15 years old and will play in the Under 16 age group this year. Roshan is no doubt a future star in the making and a great prospect for the Mount Lavinia school.
