Virender Sehwag and Captain Mahela Jayawardena led the Delhi Daredevils (DD) to their first victory in the 2013 IPL contest yesterday.
The victory came in DD’s seventh match, against Mumbai Indians played in New Delhi.
In response to Mumbai Indian’s 161 for 4, DD won in style with Sehwag and Mahela putting on a 151 run partnership for the first wicket.
Mahela scored 59 before he was ruled out LBW off a delivery of Lasith Malinga whilst Sehwag went on to score an unbeaten 95, just falling five short of becoming the first centurion.
Sehwag’s 95 off 57 balls included two sixes and thirteen fours. Mahela scored a six and eight fours.
For Mumbai Indians, Sachin Tendulkar scored 54 off 47 balls with two sixes and three fours and Rohit Sharma scored 74 off 43 balls with five sixes and an equal number of fours.
