Sri Lanka offspinner Sachithra Senanayake will get help from Daryl Foster, a human movement lecturer at the University of Western Australia, to correct his bowling action. Senanayake was banned from bowling in international cricket by the ICC earlier this month, due to an illegal action. Senanayake will leave for Australia in the second week of August, along with Sri Lanka Cricket’s head of coaching, Jerome Jayaratne, and will undergo a week-long remedial course at the University of Western Australia under Foster’s guidance. Foster was also involved in the testing of former Sri Lanka offspinner Muthiah Muralitharan’s bowling action in 1995, 1999 and 2004. “Senanayake’s action will be scrutinised through three-dimensional cameras which will give a better picture of how much of remedial action needs to be taken,” Carlton Bernadus, SLC’s head of cricket operation, said. Senanayake was reported for a suspect action during Sri Lanka’s fourth ODI against England at Lord’s on 31 May. He underwent an independent analysis of his action at the Cardiff Metropolitan University towards the end of June and the tests revealed that he exceeded the 15-degree flex-limit in all four types of deliveries that were assessed.
