Shane Warne’s relationship with Liz Hurley may be reportedly on the rocks, but the cricket legend isn’t letting his personal problems affect his golf game.
The 44-year-old upstaged some of the best players in the world by shooting a round of 71 at the Dunhill Links Championship’s pro-am at the iconic St Andrews this morning (AEST).
His one-under par round saw him finish ahead of Major winners David Duval (73), Vijay Singh (74) and Louis Oosthuizen (74), as well as his playing partner Peter O’Malley (74).
An ecstatic Warne posted a picture of his scorecard on Instagram, saying it was his “best ever round of golf”.
After completing nine pars on the front nine, Warne carded four birdies on the back nine, which was offset by a double-bogey six on the 16th hole.
The highlight of his round was a monster birdie putt on the 13th hole, while he completed his round with an impressive seven-foot putt for birdie on the 18th.
Last week, it was reported Warne’s engagement to English actress Hurley had ended due to the Australian’s reluctance to set a date for their wedding.
It’s not the first time Warne has coupled personal problems with impressive performances in the sporting arena.
His split from wife Simone in eight years ago came just months before the 2005 Ashes campaign in England, which was arguably the greatest of Warne’s career.
The leg-spinner took 40 wickets in five Tests and also played some crucial innings with the bat as Australia slid to an historic series defeat.
