Shipping agents at cricket on 2 April at NCC

The Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA) through its sports committee will conduct the 18th Annual CASA Six-A-Side Softball Cricket Tournament on Saturday, 2ndApril 2016 at the NCC grounds, which will also coincide with the 50th anniversary of Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents this year.

CASA is the leading voice in the shipping industry in Sri Lanka with a membership of 134 licensed shipping agents representing all international shipping lines which use the ports of Sri Lanka.

The tournament is open to all member agency companies of CASA. This year too, the tournament will be worked off under floodlights from the quarter final stage onwards in the gents section.

The tournament will have two segments, namely, the men’s and women’s sections and will be worked off on a knockout basis with 60 men’s and 14 women’s teams participating.

The last year 2015 winners who will defend their title this year are Freightplan Ltd., in the men’s section and V.V.K. Maritime Agencies Ltd. in the women’s section.

The tournament which was first played in 1994 has been gaining tremendous popularity among the shipping agency companies over the years. A notable feature is that this tournament has only been played at the NCC grounds since inception.

A mini tournament will also be worked off among the service providers in the shipping industry, namely Sri Lanka Customs, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), South Asia Gateway Terminals (SAGT), Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT) and Colombo Dockyard.
