The Shree FM “Sports Round Up” program has been awarded the prestigious title of “Electronic Media (Radio) - Best Sports Program of the Year” at the first-ever Presidential Sports Awards, organised by the Ministry of Sports of Sri Lanka recently.

Held at the BMICH, the inaugural Presidential Sports Awards witnessed sportsmen and women alike being honoured for outstanding performances in their respective sports at a gala awards ceremony, while also recognising sports journalists for excellence in their chosen field.

Also noteworthy, Shree FM’s News Manager Roshan Lakmal Siriwardene secured an additional honour at the ceremony by being one of a very few selected nominees for “Most Outstanding Sports Journalist (Radio/TV) of the Year.” The Shree FM “Sports Round Up” program airs on weekdays between 5.30 p.m. and 5.45 p.m. Interestingly, it goes beyond just featuring important sports news stories from across the world, and includes analysis and discussion about how certain sports can be improved. The program is jointly produced by Siriwardene as well as Shree FM’s Assistant Director for Programming Chathura Wijerathne, and Assistant Manager for Digital Media Nuwan Premathilake.

Congratulating his team, EBC Radio Chief Operating Officer Chalaka Gajabahu said: “The Shree FM ‘Sports Round Up’ team has brought great honour to the EAP organisation as a result of this prestigious award which recognises excellence in sports and sports journalism. We hope to keep distinguishing ourselves further over the coming years with plans already in place to make our content even more interesting and innovative.”
