Former Sri Lanka Test Cricketer and famous golfer Sidath Wettimuny bagged the 19th edition of the Donald Steel Trophy which was worked off recently at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort at Rajawella. Over 100 golfers participated in the very first major tournament of this year being worked off at the award winning Victoria Golf Course.
By winning this trophy, Sidath Wettimuny secured it for the third time in its 19-year history. He earlier bagged the trophy in 2008 and 2012.
The Victoria Bowl which was awarded for the Ladies Nett went to Ahalya Rajan who also accounted for the Pam Fernando Trophy for the best Ladies Gross. The other trophy played for, Ebert Pot, and given away for the Best Gents Nett winner was won by Scott Wanigasekera.
Donald Steel, the main championship, has been on offer since 1999. Chamath Kulasinghe won the very first year. Ian Tait is the only player to register a hat-trick in the history of this trophy.
The tournament was sponsored by E-wis and OCTA and co sponsored by Orange Electricals, Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts, Cinnamon Air, Mabury Fine and Sun Aquawaters.
