Singer will continue in their role as sponsors of school cricket in the country for the next three years, it was announced yesterday.

The sponsorship period, which will end in 2020, will see Singer sponsor tournaments for the Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, and Under 19 age groups, while this year will for the first time see them sponsoring girls cricket as well.

“We are a proud sponsor of Sri Lanka school cricket. We’re very proud to be associated with the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association, at the same time it is also our responsibility to support them as undertaking a major task in organising these tournaments,” said Singer Sri Lanka PLC Marketing Director Kumar Samarasinghe at a media briefing yesterday.

“As a company we are very close to women, with a major sales demographic for our products being women, so we thought this year we would begin supporting them in the sporting arena,” he added.

Singer will also be supporting over 50 schools, primarily from rural and outstation areas, with financial aid and by providing them with sports equipment. Bags of cricket equipment were donated to nine schools at the event last evening.

Sri Lanka’s school cricket system is the world’s largest, with nearly 700 teams taking part in total in tournaments taking place throughout the year. This sees an estimated 35,000 students take part from all over the country in a variety of divisions and age groups.
