Singer Sri Lanka PLC, the country’s leading consumer durable retailer, is stepping forward to power the most anticipated game in the school rugby calendar – the Bradby Shield encounter between Royal College, Colombo and Trinity College, Kandy – for yet another year. The partnership between Singer Sri Lanka and the Bradby Shield encounter kicked off in 1989, making this the 27th consecutive year that the company has been associated with this prestigious sporting event.

In addition to this, the company is also sponsoring the First XV rugby teams of both Royal College and Trinity College as they battle it out with several other teams in the 2016 – Singer Schools Rugby League Tournament organised by Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA).

Singer Sri Lanka has gone one step further by helping the rugby infrastructure development of both schools. As a result, the various facilities at the Royal College Sports Complex and the Trinity College Rugby Grounds in Pallekele have been uplifted with the construction of pavilions, scoreboards and other related facilities for players and spectators.

Speaking at the event announcing the latest chapter in this long-standing partnership, Singer Sri Lanka CEO Asoka Pieris stated, “The Bradby Shield encounter is the highlight of the schools rugby calendar and we are thrilled to be a part of it for the 27th straight year. As always, I am sure the thousands following this highly-charged encounter full of rich tradition will be treated to sporting excellence of the highest order. Our commitment towards elevating the overall standard of rugby in Sri Lanka has always gone beyond just sponsoring an event.”

“We are relentlessly focused on the big picture for Sri Lankan rugby – improving the standard of local rugby by giving youngsters from all parts of the country the chance to shine and be noticed, thereby providing them the perfect platform to showcase their talents to a wider audience,”  he added.

Singer Sri Lanka has a rich history of supporting Sri Lankan rugby at all levels. The company has backed the country’s top club rugby team of recent years – Kandy Sports Club – for 13 consecutive years. Additionally, the company has also exposed the Sri Lankan rugby players and fans alike to international rugby by organising the International Rugby Sevens for the first time last year. In parallel to all this, Singer Sri Lanka also plays a key role in ensuring sustainable long-term development and success of the game of rugby in the island.
