Once again Singer Sri Lanka will prop up the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) when 87 school teams lock horns in the 2014/2015 interschool rugby season starting from today. Singer, proud sponsor of schools rugby for the last two decades, will see through the schools playing in three divisions.
Thirty-six schools will compete in Division I, 24 schools will compete in Division 2, and 27 schools will lock horns in division 3 this year, which will be played under last year’s format.
Isipathana College will be defending their title under Sri Lanka Youth player Omalka Gunaratne who will lead the “Green Shirts” with Trinity being led by another Sri Lanka Youth player, Isuru Rangala. Both St. Peter’s and Royal too will be fielding very good outfits for this year’s tournament.
Trinity will lock horns in their 71st Bradby Shield encounter against Royal at their Pallekelle Rugby Stadium on 9 May. Their second leg will be played at the Royal Sports Complex on 23 May. The first leg game will be the tournament encounter between the two top sides. Trinity have retained the Bradby Shield for the last four years Kandy under Skippers Murad Ramzeen, Kanil Seneviratne, Halique Wadood and Tharinda Ratwatte.
