The much-awaited all-island finals of Sir John Tarbet Senior School Athletic Championship 2017 was held on 6 July at Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium Grounds, Diyagama and came to an exciting close with Walala A. Rathnayake Central College emerging Overall Champions – Girls, while the Overall Champions – Boys was Maris Stella College, Negombo.
The runners up – girls, was Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Rathnapura while St. Benedict’s College, Kotahena became the boys runners up. The Best Athlete of the Year – Girls, was K. K. Ridma Nishadi from Darmashoka College, Ambalangoda and the Best Athlete of the Year – Boys was Shehan Kariyawasam from St. Joseph’s College, Colombo. The Championship was sponsored by the premier chocolate brand of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL), Ritzbury, for the sixth consecutive year.
This year, the championship attracted over 5000 participants from 200 schools and the final two-day meet was held on 5 and 6 July. Ritzbury has earned a fine reputation as a strong supporter of several sports in Sri Lanka, in addition to its focus on the Sir John Tarbet Senior and Junior School Athletic Championships.

Runners up – Girls: Sumana Balika Vidyalaya, Rathnapura
