The Sri Lanka youth rugby pool of 25 players plus five stand by will be selected today after trial games at the Royal Sports Complex at 4 p.m.
Already 48 players are under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Nilfer Ibrahim and Technical Advisor Ananda Katurirachchi. Trinity Fly Half and ‘Rugby Lion’ Tharinda Ratwatte is expected to lead the outfit.
Earlier the JWRT-Asian Edition (Junior Rugby World Tournament) was to be held in Kandy and at the last moment it was shifted to Colombo Race Course due to the three participating teams wanting to leave on the same night soon after the final day’s playing, awards ceremony and dinner.
Hong Kong, South Korea, Taipei and Sri Lanka will participate in this tournament which will take place from 21 to 27 September.
Asian rugby giants Japan have already booked their berth in next year’s Youth Rugby World Cup in Lisbon, Portugal. The team ending on top in this Colombo tournament will get a play-off against the Samoan winners. One of the teams will be exposed to the world’s best 16 teams in Portugal next year.
