The Sri Lanka Auto Racing Drivers’ Association (SLADA) and the Motor Racing Association (MRA) have called for an immediate general suspension of Ashan Silva as well as imposed hefty fines on him following a disciplinary inquiry with regard to Gunners Supercross in August 2013. The two bodies have informed Silva that the Disciplinary Committee has found him guilty of all seven charges. This is following fellow racer Dinesh Deheragoda lodging a protest against Silva, in the event SL-GT up to 3500cc cars and also the SL-H up to 1600cc events. The complaint was Silva’s cars did not conform to specific rules and regulations laid out by the governing body of Motor sports, SLAS. The conducting clubs of the meet, SLADA and MRA immediately impounded the two cars for dismantling and inspection. During these investigations, it was revealed that the two cars in question had deviated from the technical limitations giving Ashan Silva an undue advantage over other drivers. He was then charged with the offences as per the constitution of SLAS and after nine months of deliberations, the clubs have finally announced Silva guilty of seven counts of technical irregularities. Silva has been fined Rs. 25,000 each on all seven charges along with a suspended suspension of six months. Overall the final decision is a six months suspension for charge 1 and suspended suspension of three years which would concurrently run for charges 2 to 7 and a fine of Rs. 175,000. The letter signed by MRA Secretary Nimal Gunarathna and SLDA Secretary Dilhan Jayawardena has informed Silva that the decision has been ratified by the joint committees of MRA and SLADA with a call for a general suspension with immediate effect.
