The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board yesterday rejected allegations raised by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Parliamentarian Sunil Handunnetti against the Board, including the Secretary to the Board Nishantha Ranathunga.
SLC said that at an emergency Executive Committee Meeting held yesterday to discuss media reports over the allegations made by Handunnetti, it was found that all the allegations made were baseless and done with the malicious intent of discrediting the Executive Committee of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board and the Secretary.
“The Executive Committee is to address the media in due course with all the relevant documents and approvals obtained in order to clear the negative perception which has been created in the minds of the public by these false allegations,” SLC said.
The cricket board added that the Executive Committee is in the process of discussing the matter further with the Legal Committee.
Handunnetti last week lodged a complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption against former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nishantha Ranatunga.
Hadunetti said that there had been large scale financial irregularities and corruption at SLC and also acts of revenge against certain cricketers allegedly under the influence of Ranatunga and with the involvement of the former Sports Minister and the SLC Executive Committee. (Colombo Gazette)
