With regard to the mishap that took place at the opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy in England, Secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket Nishantha Ranatunga has written to Dave Richardson CEO of ICC, requesting a clarification on the incident and as to how ICC intends to rectify this mishap.
At the opening ceremony on Thursday Champions Trophy organisers had played a Hindi song instead of a song which reflects the Sri Lankan identity.
This happened when Sri Lankan Cricket Captain Angelo Mathews introduced the team at the ceremony, whereas when songs from respective countries were played when captains of other nations introduced themselves.
“The song that was played was not keeping in line with the identity of Sri Lanka. The entire Lankan cricketing fraternity and the public was dismayed as a result of this and we demand an explanation from the ICC as to how this happened,” SLC Media Manager Rajith Fernando told media yesterday.
