SLI Motor Plus Southern Monsoon Rally to kick off this Saturday

The Sri Lanka Insurance Southern Monsoon Rally 2011, ‘The Journey through the Wilderness of the South’ is scheduled to rev off on Saturday, 24 September 2011 and draw to a close on Sunday, 25 September, at Polhena, Matara.

This is the 15th Annual National Rally organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC) since its inception in 1997. This grand motor sports episode would be running throughout all 3 districts covering Galle, Matara, Ratnapura and Hambantota promising an aura of excitement combined with the spills and thrills of Southern terrains similar to the 14 previous events that endow with roaring successes.

It is sure to be an enthralling experience of the spectators who are rejoicing tranquillity after three decades long separatist conflict.

This year’s rally would run into some 600 plus kms and the route nestled amongst the typical/historical environs of down south, the vast expanse of lush green country side, abundant blue water reservoirs, clear streams, rivers and sea beach provides the opportunity for holiday travellers, recreation stored local population and ever willing motor sports enthusiasts to enjoying two days worth of motor racing together with entertainment. The route of the rally is plotted by Sri Lanka’s master schemer, Andrew Silva for the 14th successive year.

The rally is broken down into three stages from Matara to Udawalawa, Udawalawa to Hambantota and Hambantota to Matara, promising a virtuous drive for all the competitors.

Southern Monsoon Rally is considered as the most challenging annual TSD Rally in Sri Lanka by most of the motor rally sportsmen in the country. Also this motoring event has been acknowledged by the competitors as one of the best organised events in the country.

There we about 40 entries at the previous meet, including those of the well known motor sportsmen in the country. SMSC is planning to award an array of Trophies to the winners of the individuals and those of the whole event as well. The awards too are proportionate and have over 100 trophies on offer. The details of the various awards are as follows: Stage prizes - for the 01st, 02nd & 03rd of rally stages / Category Prizes - Novices/Pro, Cars/Jeeps and Overall Prizes for the First 10 places.

The price distribution ceremony will be held on 25 September 2011 at Polhena Reef Garden Hotel premises, Matara around 18 hours with a striking musical show. The SMSC recognised the importance of creating the right ambience and vibes in providing both the competitors and the spectators with maximum excitement and enjoyment at their meets.
